Microsoft Virtual Work Experience

Microsoft Virtual Work Experience

Year 9 and 10 students took part in Virtual Work Experience run by Microsoft.

The Xbox Academy  facilitated a session on game development when students are got tips on how to get into game development

Students enjoyed found the session about AI (Artificial Intelligence)and found it very interesting.  The focus on Girls in Technology was very informative.

Here are a couple of question our students asked.

Do you think it is possible for AI to develop human emotion?

Answer from Moderator
If you mean the ability to recognise, understand and mimic human emotion, then yes absolutely, although it is going to be a long road to get there. We are already making strong progress with sentiment analysis tools and conversation bots. Good examples are; Amelia Pepper lil Miquela Being able to truly 'feel' however requires some degree of sentience and I feel that is a way off yet.

What happens when the phone with the app "Seeing AI" runs out of battery in public while the person who is visually impaired is without a cane?

Answer from Moderator
The App is designed to assist those with Visual disabilities to interact with objects in the world, such as scene analysis and reading etc. It is not recommended to rely solely on the app for navigation and transport. Therefore It would be suggested to still carry a cane as a backup.

The final session covered how to set up a business.  Microsoft provided templates on how to set up a business plan and our students were very engaged and keen to come up with great proposals.
