The department aims to provide intellectual stimulation, enjoyment and a sense of achievement and to encourage social interaction through an emphasis on communication, and to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of the countries where the language is spoken.
The Languages Department occupies four specialist rooms. All rooms are equipped with projectors. The Languages Office also houses banks of teaching resources and the Department also has the services of a French Assistant.
KS3
All students are taught in mixed ability groups and the KS3 National Strategy-framework for teaching Modern Foreign Languages is closely adhered to.
Students in year 7 and 8 study French and Spanish and are currently using Expo and Mira as their main course book.

KS4
In year 8, students can opt to study GCSE French or Spanish. The syllabus followed is provided by AQA and all four attainment skills are tested. Listening (25%), Reading (25%), Speaking (25%), Writing (25%)
