Houses of Parliament visit

Our Year 12 Government and Politics students were lucky enough to visit  the Palace of Westminster earlier in the month.

The day started with a tour round the central and voting lobbies and Westminster Hall.  Students sat in the Strangers' Gallery of the House of Lords to hear part of a debate on the funding of political parties and visited the House of Commons, being allowed to stand between (not sit on) the famous green benches.

Back in the Education Centre, the students heard about how Select Committees work and took part in a mock debate about their effectiveness.  And our local MP, Mike Gapes paid a visit to explain about an MP's work.
